About Centre for Humanitarian Psychology
The CPH was founded in 1998 and directed by clinical psychotherapist Claire Colliard. The Centre for Humanitarian Psychology is an international organisation whose aim is to provide psychological support to humanitarian workers in the field.
For the past ten years or so, traditional wars between states have been superseded by regional conflicts and varying types of belligerents, which make conditions of work difficult for humanitarian workers. In the field they have frequently become the target for different types of aggressions such as terrorist acts, rapes, and even deaths of colleagues at work. This puts them under psychological and physical stress over and above their difficult conditions of living, which can become unbearable and places them in traumatic situations.
We work through a network of professionals who are both psychologists and familiar with humanitarian work, trainers, partners and volunteers, in Europe and in the field. Their intention is to help humanitarian organisations, both in Europe and elsewhere in the world, by offering training which is targeted and adapted to each case, as well as services and products whose purpose is to improve the preparation and briefing of expatriates before their departure and their quality of life in the field.
